A kindly old widow serves a free meal to the penniless boys but her greedy landlord wants to evict her for non payment of her mortgage, prompting the boys to come to her rescue.

Stan and Ollie take a trip into the mountains (the high multitude) so Ollie can recover from gout. Bootleggers have dumped their moonshine in the well from which the boys sample their healthy mountain water. Stan and Ollie check into a seedy hotel and help a young girl escape the clutches of the landlord (Long). They are forced to flee the hotel with no money and Ollie arranges for Stan to fight at a local boxing hall for $50. Stans opponent turns out to be Musgy who uses a loaded glove. However, Mrs Laurel has replaced the booze with a noxious mixture of cold tea, mustard power, and other hot ingredients. This doesnt prevent the boys from getting tipsy on the contents.
