Jyothi Lingam (Mahesh) is a bright student and son of a mason who leads a happy life in his village near Tirunelveli. One day tragedy strikes as his father, the only earning member of the family, dies in an accident while crossing an unmanned railway gate. Mahesh now has to look after his mother and two sisters. Due to circumstances, he is forced to abandon his studies, even though he comes first in his school in the board exams. Through a canvassing agent, he and his friend Marimuthu, get jobs as sales boys in a textile showroom in Ranganathan Street in Chennai. Mahesh, along with hundreds of others, are employed at the Senthil Murugan Stores run by the big Annachi. On each floor at the textile showroom, there are around 50 to 60 sales boys and girls who work in pitiable conditions from early in the morning to late night, without any rest. He meets Kani (Anjali), a fiery independent girl. The difficult and harrowing times in the store bring them together as they face up to a cruel and lewd store supervisor Karungali (director A Venkatesh), who beats up the boys and molests the girls when they play around during duty hours. As Mahesh says there is no escape from the Jail like atmosphere in the shop where employees are treated more like slave labor in a concentration camp than without any human dignity. Angadi Theru is about how these two survive in a concentration camp like condition and what happens when fate perpetually smiles very cruelly at them. Ashok (Madhavan) and Julie (Sree Devi) have been friends ever since childhood and they don't share any love interest. Ashok falls in love with Nandini (Jyothika), a rich girl with whom he marries, and although Julie's closeness to Ashok initially irritates Nandini, she subsequently accepts it. Julie falls in love with a guy called Michael (Vineeth), a cricketer who's hoping for a place in the Indian criket team and Ashok happens to be his main opponent. When Ashok gets selected, Michael's father strikes a deal with Ashok that the marriage between his son and Julie will only take place if Ashok steps down and let Michael substitute him, to which Ashok agrees for friendship's sake. Bomman (Vikram Prabhu) a mahout and his pet elephant Manickam make a living out of performing in temples and film shootings. He is assisted by his uncle (Thambi Ramaiah) a drunkard and wastrel. Due to certain circumstances, they find themselves in a remote village protecting the villagers from a wild heard of elephants. Bomman knows that Manickam is not a trained Kumki elephant who can take on or stop the attack of the wild elephants. However he does not care as by then he has fallen madly in love with the village chieftain's daughter Alli (Lakshmi Menon). The film opens with Vasudevan, a police officer, investigating the murder of Ramya, his ex-girlfriend. Initial reports from the scene of the crime suggest that Ramya had committed suicide. But Vasudevan suspects foul play and moves into the same apartment complex where Ramya lived, in order to investigate further. While the police investigation is underway in the neighborhood, people who are associated with the case are killed under seemingly mysterious circumstances. Vasudevan soon discovers a supernatural force in play, which seems to have taken the form of water (H2O). He probes further and learns that Ramyas spirit is behind the killings. Ramyas spirit then uses her sister Divya as a medium to reveal the true circumstances behind her death at the hands of her husband Bala (Nandha). The spirit recounts the story of Ramyas marriage to Bala and their life together. In the early days of her marriage, Ramya inadvertently confesses her past relationship with Vasudevan to Bala, after which he develops a strong jealousy towards Vasudevan. Later, when a young neighbors (Heera Selvaraj) paramour intentionally insinuates that Ramya is his lover to a nosy neighbor, things take a turn for the worse. Rumors about Ramyas alleged trysts with her lover begin to circulate in the apartment complex. When Bala learns of the rumors, his jealousy turns into rage and eventually consumes him, driving him to murder Ramya.
