Thirumalai (Vijay) mechanic who lives in Pudupet and has three close friends for whom he would do anything. Raghuvaran is an artist who comes to stay near Tirumalai's mechanic shop with his wife Nagalakshmi (Kousalya). Thirumalai happens to meet Swetha (Jyothika), on a New Year's Day. As she appears in front of him all of a sudden, she happens to greet saying 'Everyone will do fine'. From that very day, things start to shine up in Thirumalai's life. He falls in love with Swetha as he thinks that good things started to happen in his life only after she greeted him. Swetha first ignores him, but soon she understands his nature and reciprocates. Meanwhile Swetha's father (Avinash), a business tycoon who owns six satellite channels hates the idea of a mechanic being his son-in-law and seeks the help of a local thug Arasu (Manoj.K.Jayan) whose only job is to kill people for huge money. Industrialist Viswnath's (S.P.Balu) son Vijay (Vijay) comes home after completing his education abroad. Viswanath's personal secretary Radha (Simran) has several problems to deal with - an elder sister deserted by her husband, an unmarried and pregnant younger sister, an unemployed elder brother and she herself has a congenital heart. The movie begins in a remote village in Madurai where Sivagiri, a blacksmith and his sister Karupayi share a close bondage. Sivagiri wants to get his sister married off to a city dweller. He along with his friend Kannappan manages to find an alliance in Saligramam, Chennai. After the wedding, when Sivagiri comes to Chennai to leave his sister and her husband, he encounters rowdies and anti-socials who have a free-run in the city. He wonders why the city-dwellers are maintaining a mute silence to the anti-socials. In the meanwhile, he also falls in love with Subha. In a tussle at a theater in Chennai, Pattasu Balu and Sagadai Saniyan's men murder Kannappan. The death sparks a turn of events in Sivagiri's life. Sivakasi (Vijay) is man with a golden heart. A do-gooder, who dotes on his mother and sister. The theme revolves round the sacrifices he is called upon to make the mother and sister happy. He leaves his home at the age of eight due to some fall out with his father caused by his elder brother. After many years, he decides to return to his hometown after being forced to by Hema (Asin), his girlfriend. When he arrives to his hometown, he finds out about the sinister doings of this brother Udhayappa (Prakash Raj) to his mother (Geetha) and his sister (Lakshana). He decides to stay and help his mother and sister regain their life. Till then, he will not reveal his identity. If falling in love with Asin and the associated comedy is hot in the first half, plotting to unseat his brother Prakash Raj and emoting with the status of his sister Lakshana and mother Geeta, are incredibly in the second half. Jeevanandhan Jeeva (Vijay) is a very rich young man. Although his parents (Sivakumar and Srividhya) want him to settle down, he goes to another city to do his MBA and stays with friends. During this time, he meets Mini (Shalini) and they fall in love. She reciprocates his feelings, but trouble comes in the form of her tyrannical trio of brothers (Raatha Ravi, Thalaivasal Vijay and Shaji Khan) who are over-protective of their little sister and take an irrational dislike to Jeeva. They show hostility towards Jeeva and conflicts arise within the households and the couple decides to elope, they go to Kesavan's Hometown and Manivannan refuge them before the Proposed Wedding. Jeeva tries to convince his mother one last time and in vain. On the day of the wedding both realize they miss their families. They decide to return home, relinquishing their feelings, and the families are happy and take them back. Jeeva's Mom wants to see Mini so that she can get a better wife for her son and goes to meet Mini. Initially reluctant to welcome them, the brothers hesitate, but their mother welcomes them, ultimately their families accept their love, and they are reunited.

Kutty is a good-hearted soul, but unfortunate incidents tend to portray his ruffian side whenever he encounters the girl he loves. A bizarre incident brings them closer and yet keeps them apart.
