The film revolves around a group of passengers travelling in two different buses, each having their own past & a reason for their travel. The most prominent among those is the love track between Kathiresan (Jai)- Manimegalai (Anjali) & the other between Vinay (Saravanandh) & Amudha (Ananya). Bomman (Vikram Prabhu) a mahout and his pet elephant Manickam make a living out of performing in temples and film shootings. He is assisted by his uncle (Thambi Ramaiah) a drunkard and wastrel. Due to certain circumstances, they find themselves in a remote village protecting the villagers from a wild heard of elephants. Bomman knows that Manickam is not a trained Kumki elephant who can take on or stop the attack of the wild elephants. However he does not care as by then he has fallen madly in love with the village chieftain's daughter Alli (Lakshmi Menon). Jyothi Lingam (Mahesh) is a bright student and son of a mason who leads a happy life in his village near Tirunelveli. One day tragedy strikes as his father, the only earning member of the family, dies in an accident while crossing an unmanned railway gate. Mahesh now has to look after his mother and two sisters. Due to circumstances, he is forced to abandon his studies, even though he comes first in his school in the board exams. Through a canvassing agent, he and his friend Marimuthu, get jobs as sales boys in a textile showroom in Ranganathan Street in Chennai. Mahesh, along with hundreds of others, are employed at the Senthil Murugan Stores run by the big Annachi. On each floor at the textile showroom, there are around 50 to 60 sales boys and girls who work in pitiable conditions from early in the morning to late night, without any rest. He meets Kani (Anjali), a fiery independent girl. The difficult and harrowing times in the store bring them together as they face up to a cruel and lewd store supervisor Karungali (director A Venkatesh), who beats up the boys and molests the girls when they play around during duty hours. As Mahesh says there is no escape from the Jail like atmosphere in the shop where employees are treated more like slave labor in a concentration camp than without any human dignity. Angadi Theru is about how these two survive in a concentration camp like condition and what happens when fate perpetually smiles very cruelly at them. The protagonist in the film, Gandhi Babu (Natraj) is a skilled conman. He dreams up ingenious scams and executes them perfectly. He sells ignorant people ordinary snakes claiming that they are exotic and will fetch crores in the international market. He promotes a non-existent 'multi-level marketing' company with its controversial chain referral schemes promising a BMW car within the year. And the climax has him pulling off 'the rice pulling scam', one of the most high profile scams of recent times. About 40 minutes into the film Gandhi Babu is arrested and multiple cases filed against him. But the money he has scammed over the years comes to his rescue and he is released. He is not in the least remorseful and continues to manipulate everyone. He believes that if a person is foolish or greedy enough to be duped, then the person is to be blamed. He argues that every election voters are conned by the candidates who promise them the moon, but never come through. Banu (Ishara Nair) is from a poor family. She comes to work for him and falls for his charms. Despite having a soft corner for her, money is Gandhi Babu's first priority and he abandons her.
